Born and raised Born in Tel-Aviv, Ran and his family leapfrogged over the Atlantic between Tel-Aviv and New York for most of his early childhood. Despite growing up mostly in NYC, Ran’s connection to Israel has never waned. As an individual who has built his life in the City and who recognizes his future here, Ran was still yearning for an opportunity to express his Israeli identity not through religion or politics but though Israeli culture with like-minded young professionals. Vis-à-vis Dor Chadash, Ran has had the opportunity to keep his finger on the pulse of Israeli pop culture and current events while building a network of high quality individuals who share his common passions and values.
Ran recently graduated from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and joined up with American Realty Capital (ARC), a real estate private equity firm focusing on the commercial space.
“Although I am a Jew who has lived most of his life in the United States, I never connected to American Jewish life...until I found Dor Chadash,” states Ran. “This organization speaks to my need to express my Jewish identity through a connection to Israel. I am proud to invest my energy and my time into Dor Chadash, helping to create a beautiful piece of Israel in New York.”
back to topDavid Borowich
Honorary Chairman and Founder of Dor Chadash
Born in Lexington, Kentucky, David grew up in Westchester, New York. After receiving his BA in political science at Yeshiva University and working for a Senator on Capital Hill, David made Aliyah and served in a Tank unit in the Israel Defense Forces.
Today he is a Senior Vice President with the RAI Group, a specialty finance company and has served as the Chief Operating Officer at Optinetix, an Optical Messaging company and as Vice President of Business Development and Marketing at Tantian, an Israeli-based Enterprise software company. Before that, David spent several years as a Strategy Consultant with Cap Gemini/Ernst & Young’s Management Consulting practice. David holds an MBA in Finance and Marketing from New York University’s Stern School of Business and has also worked in marketing and business development at American Express and in account management at advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather.
In addition to Dor Chadash, David is involved in several philanthropic organizations, including serving as the Founding Chairman of the J2J Network, and serving on the Board of Directors of the New York University Alumni Board, the JCRC (Jewish Community Relations Council) of New York, American Zionist Movement (AZM), and Parallel Lives. He is active with the NY City Mentoring program and is the recipient of a 2005 Community leadership award from Mayor Michael Bloomberg and a recipient of the first annual Herzl prize.
David founded Dor Chadash as an outlet for American-Israeli hybrids. "I have always looked for a group like this - a place for people who don't quite fit the mold and want to socialize with both groups. It could be they were born to a mix of Israeli and American parents or are Israeli but live in America now or are American-born but love Israel, or are simply identity-challenged and want to be around other people who are confused." At Dor Chadash, David feels at home. For him, it's a place where he can be Israeli and American and perhaps reduce the stereotypes and help build a bridge between his Israeli and American friends.

back to topWith both an Undergraduate and Masters Degree in international law and human rights from Columbia and a law degree from Harvard, Linor has always been interested in human rights and social activism issues. Throughout her professional life, Linor has continued to maintain an interest in human rights and non-profit causes, having been involved with organizations such as the ADL and acted as a volunteer advocate for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for children in foster care).
Linor has been involved with Dor Chadash from its inception and is a true example of a hybrid American (actually Canadian) Israeli. She was born in Montreal and raised in Brookline, MA, to an Iraqi mom who was raised in Israel and an Argentine father. Since her childhood she was surrounded by Israeli expatriates, and has spent numerous periods in Israel, including as an intern in the Israeli Foreign Ministry and as a summer associate at Yigal Arnon. Last year, she married an Israeli, and she recently gave birth to a boy, who is now her own hybrid.
back to topNimrod Levy
Born and raised in Ramat-Hasharon Israel, Nimrod arrived to NY in 2005 to join the local delegation of the Government of Israel. A few weeks later Nimrod discovered Dor Chadash and instantaneously fell in love. “Interacting with Jewish Americans at my first Dor Chadash event and bringing out my “israelism” was a unique experience for me, which helped me realize the important role this wonderful organization plays in the community. Our joined passion for Israel is the fuel for long-lasting friendships”. Immediately after this event, Nimrod joined Dor Chadash’s Cultural Committee.
Nimrod graduated from Tel-Aviv University with a B.A in Accounting, Management and Economics. He’s currently studying for his MBA at Columbia Business School where he also serves on the Graduate Business Association Executive Board and teaches Accounting.
Nimrod has joined the board of Dor Chadash after Co-Chairing the Cultural Committee for 3 years, successfully leading more than 35 events.
back to topZvi Osterweil, M.D.
Chair, Cultural Committee
“Establishment of the Jewish state was primarily based on three things: 1) the continued presence of some Jews in Israel since biblical times, 2) the blood and sweat of pioneers who transformed a desert into a viable industrial nation, and 3) a haven from the relentless persecution of anti-Semitism. Though born in the U.S., Zvi is deeply connected and committed to Israel because his family is an amalgam of all three narratives: 1) his maternal grandmother’s family lived in Jerusalem for thousands of years, 2) his maternal grandfather’s family arrived in Israel with the very very first Zionists during the first aliya from Russia to establish Rishon-LeZion, and 3) his father is a Holocaust survivor.
Zvi is an Ear Nose & Throat surgeon with a solo practice on the Upper East Side, and he is voluntary faculty at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Cornell University. He was raised in Maryland to parents who came from Israel.
Zvi still recalls his enthusiasm at the first ever Dor Chadash Mangal in October of 2003 when he was relieved to discover that he was not the only Israeli-American ‘hybrid’ with an ‘identity crisis’. Since that time, he has tried to remain active in the Dor Chadash community by volunteering on the Cultural Committee.”
back to topJoshua Siderow
Born and raised in Chappaqua, New York, Josh traveled to Israel in 1994 to volunteer and study Hebrew on Kibbutz Palmachim for seven months. After continuing terror attacks, Josh felt compelled to act and decided to make aliya. He continued his Hebrew studies at Ulpan Akiva, Netanya and Tel Aviv University’s Overseas Student Program. Josh served in the Military Police of the IDF manning border checkpoints and as a “Loked Arik’im.” Following his army service, Josh enrolled in Tel-Aviv University’s “Mechina” preparation program for new immigrants and went on to earn his B.A. in History and English Literature from Tel-Aviv University. In June 2005, Josh married Sharon, an Israeli he met at Tel Aviv University and returned to New York. She recently gave birth to a baby boy named Liam. He now works at Murray Hill Properties, a full service commercial real estate firm. Josh has joined Dor Chadash because he believes that he can provide a unique perspective as an American Jew that has been immersed in both American Jewish and Israeli cultures and he views Israel advocacy as the best way to support Israel while overseas and maintain his strong connection with Israel until his return. Josh’s interests include World Politics, History (Middle Eastern and Islamic), Sports (Mainly New York Giants, New York Yankees, is a disgruntled Knick fan), and his wife’s Shabbat Dinners.
